Learn how to enable, moderate, and filter reader reviews for books in your library.

Readers can leave ratings and reviews on books in your library. As an admin, you can control whether reviews are allowed, moderate their visibility, and automatically filter inappropriate content.

Enable or Disable Reviews

  1. From the Manage tab, choose Library, go to Settings, then choose the Annotations & Reviews tab from the dashboard on the right.
  2. Under Reviews, check or uncheck the following options:
    • Allow user reviews: Permit readers to submit reviews.
    • Allow anonymous reviews: Let users submit reviews without requiring a login.
    • Lock reviews: Prevent new reviews from being added while keeping existing ones visible.
    • Enable 5-star based rating: Allow users to rate books on a 1-5 star scale.
    • Disable auto-publish reviews: Hold new reviews for moderation before they appear publicly.

Viewing and Moderating Reviews

On the right-hand side of the Annotations & Reviews page, you’ll find the Reviews Moderation panel. Here you can view all the reviews you received for your books, as well as:

  • Unpublish reviews you don’t want visible.

  • Delete reviews permanently.

  • Export reviews to an XLS report for record keeping.

Censor Sensitive Words

To maintain a respectful environment, you can enable Censor sensitive words.
When this is turned on, inappropriate words in reader reviews will be automatically replaced with asterisks (*).

How Reviews Appear to Readers

  • Each book displays its average star rating (if enabled).
  • Reviews appear below the book details page.
  • Readers see censored versions of reviews if the filter is enabled.

Best Practices

  • Enable the censorship option if your library is used by a wide audience.

  • Use Disable auto-publish reviews to review content before it goes live.

  • Encourage constructive reviews by communicating your guidelines to readers.
