Kotobee v1.9.9 introduces new interactive content tools, expanded mobile app controls, improved library management, and enhancements for developers and administrators. These updates make it easier to create engaging ebooks, manage large libraries, and customize the reading experience for your users.

Kotobee Author

New Question Type: Choose-Missing-Words

A new question type is now available in Kotobee Author. Readers are presented with a sentence containing blank spaces and can select the appropriate answer for each blank from an associated dropdown list.

Clickable Image Hotspots

Create interactive images with clickable regions using the new Image Hotspot tool. Each region can display a popup when readers click or hover over it, giving you more flexibility when adding explanations, labels, and additional information to images.

AI-Generated Questions from Your Content

When creating AI-generated questions, you no longer need to enter a subject. Instead, you can have the questions generated based on the current chapter or selected text. This is useful when you want to quickly create questions that are directly relevant to the content you’re working on.

Disable Screenshots in Mobile Apps

You can now prevent users from taking screenshots in your exported mobile apps. This option is available in the mobile app customization settings. It gives you greater control over how your ebook content is captured and shared, which can be especially useful when distributing copyrighted, proprietary, or sensitive content through mobile apps.

Push Notifications for Mobile Apps

Exported mobile apps now support push notifications. You can send notifications to users who have your app installed, even when the app is not currently open.

You can also configure what happens when a user taps a notification, allowing you to direct them to specific content or actions within the app. If you do not need push notifications, you can disable them from the mobile app export settings.

OpenAPI API Documentation

Kotobee's backend API is now documented using OpenAPI, and a Swagger file is available for download. This is particularly useful for developers and technical teams integrating Kotobee with other systems. The API documentation provides a clearer reference for available endpoints and makes it easier to explore and build integrations with Kotobee platform.

Video Duration Badges in Pexels

Kotobee Author’s integrated Pexels library gives you access to free photos and video footage that you can browse through and add directly to your ebook. With this update, Pexels video results now display the duration of each video in seconds. This makes it easier to quickly compare footage and choose a clip that fits your ebook without having to open each video first.

Category-Based Access Control

Managing book permissions for large collections is now much easier. Instead of excluding books individually, library administrators and publishers can restrict user access to entire categories at once, which simplifies how they customize content for different user groups.

Set Category Order by Index

Managing the order of a large number of categories is now easier. Instead of manually dragging categories into position, you can specify their order directly by entering an order index number.

Custom Footer Links in Library Website

You can now add custom links to the footer of your library website, such as links to your FAQ, Privacy Policy, or other important pages.

Free Ebooks in Private Libraries

In your private library, you can now make selected ebooks accessible to all users without setting individual permissions. Simply set the ebook’s price to zero, and users can access it for free.

Set Default Book Permissions

By default, access to books in your library is controlled by the permissions assigned to the book, its category, or the entire library. You can now change this default behavior from Library > Permissions, where you can choose whether newly uploaded books are immediately accessible to everyone or remain under access control.

For example, if you want all newly uploaded books to be freely available, you can set the default permission to allow access for everyone. If you prefer to control who can access each book, you can keep the access control option enabled.

Audiobook Playback in the Background

When exporting your library as an iOS app, you can now enable Allow background audio to let readers keep audiobooks from the library app playing even when they navigate to the home screen or lock their iPhone or iPad.

Allow Users to Purchase Multiple Copies

When users purchase a book from your library, they can now specify the number of copies they need. If they purchase multiple copies, they receive an XLS file containing promo codes, with one code for each copy. These codes can then be shared with the intended recipients to give them access to the book.

This is useful when you want to sell a book to organizations, schools, or other customers who need copies for multiple users.

Bulk LTI Course Import

You can now import multiple LTI courses at once using an XLS spreadsheet. This can save time for educational institutions and administrators who need to set up a large number of courses. Instead of creating each course individually, you can add their details in a spreadsheet and import them in bulk.

Export Smart Chat Conversations as PDF

Keep a record of your Smart Chat interactions by exporting conversations as PDF files. This makes it easy to save, share, or refer back to conversations and the information discussed in them.

Kotobee Mini-apps

New Mini-App Bundles

Specialized mini-app bundles are now available at reduced prices for K–12, higher education, and corporate training. Additionally, the new All Mini-Apps Plan provides full access to every available mini-app. Explore the available bundles at Kotobee Mini-Apps.

Try Mini-Apps Before You Buy

Live previews are now available on Kotobee Mini-Apps website pages. You can test and interact with any mini-app before completing a purchase or adding it to your ebook.
