Learn how to add a matching question to your ebook with Kotobee Author.

A Matching Question asks readers to pair items from two lists. You create a set of terms in one column and their corresponding matches in the other. The user’s task is to connect each item correctly.

This type of question is useful for exercises that test associations, such as:

  • Matching countries with their capitals.
  • Linking vocabulary words to their definitions.
  • Pairing scientific terms with their correct descriptions.

Steps to Add a Matching Question

  1. Go to the toolbox on the right-hand side of the screen and click on the Questions button. The Insert/Edit Questions window will appear.
  2. Enter a Title for the question set. This title will appear as the heading for the questions module.
  3. Click on Response and select how the users receive the answers:
    • Score only: Displays a score for the user after the answers are submitted.
    • Score and answer report: Displays a detailed score report showing the correct and incorrect answers.
    • Do nothing: Neither scores nor answers are given.
  4. Click on the Matching button to add to your questions component. You can add as many questions as you like.
  5. Fill in the question text (for example: “Match each country with its capital city.”).
  6. Enter the pairs of items. For each row, type a word or phrase in the left column and its correct match in the right column. Additional rows can be added as needed.

For each question, you can apply the following additions:

  • Add media: Attach an image or an audio file to either side of a matching pair. Images can help visually represent terms or objects, while audio clips can provide pronunciations or spoken prompts.
  • Add answer explanation: Display further information/explanation after the question is submitted. The explanation will appear whether the question is answered correctly or incorrectly.
  • Add reference: Guide the user to an external source through a “Learn more” button. This will appear right below the explanation once the user’s answers have been submitted.
  • Score weight: Assign different weights for different questions. The default weight is 1. More important questions should receive higher score weights.
  • Add to Question Bank: Save the question to your personal question bank so you can easily reuse it in other quizzes or ebooks without recreating it from scratch. Note: This option only appears after you enter the question text.

7. Click on Create to finalize the question.
